Denver trauma therapist | Summit County, CO trauma therapist
My name Is Hannah Buzzo and I am a trauma therapist in Denver and Frisco, CO.
What is trauma?
Trauma is any event that creates an intense emotional response for us. Trauma can result from extreme events like physical, sexual or emotional abuse, natural disasters, or war. In addition, trauma can also result from experiences like witnessing a distressing event, mental health disorders, addiction, injuries, or any event that creates a disturbance in our ability to feel physically or emotionally safe or in control.
How does trauma affect us?
When we experience trauma, our systems become overwhelmed and aren’t able to process what is happening to us. This can lead to what we know as “trauma responses”, which can show up as a variety of difficult patterns, behaviors, and symptoms. Common examples look like shutting down, feeling numb, mood swings, sadness, loneliness, isolation, anger, panic, feelings of being “on edge”, and dissociation. These responses and symptoms can have a negative impact on your life and lead to other issues like depression, anxiety, addiction and substance use, and difficulty in your relationships.
Most people experience trauma at some point, but it doesn’t have to define you.
Our approach to trauma
Our goal as trauma therapists in Denver and Frisco, CO is not to erase memories, or help you forget your past. Rather, our goal is to help you work through the difficult feelings so the symptoms of trauma and emotional responses are lessened to a point where you can engage more fully in your life. We help you get to the root of your trauma, so you can reprocess these painful experiences and move towards more joy and presence in your daily life.
At Alchemy Therapy & Wellness, we use a combination of traditional and alternative approaches to treat trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), attachment trauma, and symptoms of trauma. I implement evidence based approaches such as attachment therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), which are proven to show positive results for treating trauma and PTSD.
